Man Arrested For Squid Virus

August 26, 2010 in Shpiel

A Japanese man is finally arrested after striking fear into the hearts of the innocent with his powerful Ikatako (squid octopus) Virus, the ruler of all ocean dwelling viruses. The internet virus attacked its victims by substituting various files stored on their computer with images of cute marine invertebrate.

The man, Masato Nakatsuji, had previously unleashed (and was convicted for) another diabolical virus performing a similar task to the Itatako Virus, only instead with images of Key’s visual novel Clannad. What those images may have been of we can only hypothesize.

But rest assured, the notorious calamari bandit is now serving behind bars to make up for his sinister crimes. Perhaps the unfortunate Japanese highschool student who’s essay was attacked was lucky enough to have a teacher who was so touched by the charm of the humble Ikatako’s image that she extended his deadline until the following Monday.

Heads Up, Chaos Code

August 25, 2010 in Shpiel

No, 2D fighting games with anime-inspired graphics aren’t dead yet. Chaos Code is the latest of the genre and is being developed by the Australian-yet-Japanese company FKDigital. At the moment they’re running Chaos Code’s second location test and the actual arcade release date will be determined by it. A console or PC port is also not out of the question as the game was originally intended for online PC gaming.

The game itself is impressively delightful from the visual designs, to the sprites, to the character playstyles. The gameplay is what you’d expect in an anime fighter, chains, air dashes, supers, the whole nine yards. There’s a unique system in which you may select if your character “bounce” type in which they may either run or dash. The differences seem to be that certain moves may be dash cancelled while runs can cancel into other actions.

But what I like the most are the characters (and their funny names) including Bravo Peperonicine the combat chef and Cthylla the daughter of Cthulhu. They may not be flaring with flamboyance but they still project a cool and composed aura reminiscent of the King of Fighter series. My favorite of the bunch, Celia, Mecha Hisui’s purple-haired daughter complete with “a-hah!” skirt missiles. Check out the Taiwanese interview and Catherine’s gayness hyping up the game.

The Double Down

August 24, 2010 in Shpiel

shrine-write makes its debut as a professional gourmet food reviewing website with my recent capture of the legendary Kentucky Fried Chicken Double Down sandwich. The Double Down is the Colonel’s latest and greatest creation: a monster mix of meat, meat, cheese, and more meat. Specifically it’s pepper jack and swiss cheese, bacon, and chicken lathered in the Colonel’s secret sauce, all sandwiched between two larger, grilled filets of savory chicken. Basically a one-way ticket to heart disease.

I’ve been longing to try this baby for a while myself but it’s surprisingly difficult to find a KFC that provides them. Only one of the three KFCs in town held the secret to its creation and took me nearly thirty minutes to drive to. Was it worth it? Does the pope pray?

You can get the meal for $6.99 but if you’re only interested in the beast of sandwiches, Double Down himself, then you can drop the price to $4.99. The Double Down is like a piece of yummy covered in tasty wrapped around in delicious, including the final touch of KFC crack sprinkled in it. For a mere $5 it’s definitely worth trying at least once, but perhaps it’s a good thing it’s difficult to find as this sandwich is most likely as healthy as drinking a chocolate syrup and butter smoothie.

Nice and greasy… mmm…

Back to School

August 23, 2010 in Shpiel

Today officially marks the end of my sweet and unproductive days of summer break. Alas I have finally made my return to school, though perhaps with a bit more interest as I have shamelessly enrolled in the sacred course, Japanese 101, as an official “gakusei.”

The class itself was standard procedure. We were introduced to the basics of the basics starting from vowels to introductory words to numbers, most of which I and unsurprisingly most of my Japanophile classmates were familiar with beforehand. I managed to secure the strongest back seat adjacent to the window so hopefully within the semester I’ll meet my fabled tsundere ojou-chan. ( ´・ω・`)

For my fellow students, if you are not yet aware I leave you one more gift. Free Amazon Prime for a year if you’re a college student. All you really need is an email account associated with a college (presumably in America). Enjoy.
