At long last after nearly a year of wait another official trailer for the newest upcoming Wii title Metroid game, Metroid: Other M, has been released.

Thoughts? Well back during E3 2009 when Other M was first announced, I admit my inner Metroid fanboy shouted out loudly with glee. Not only because it revived the old fanboy in me, but the actual gameplay and direction Other M was taking struck me as very interesting. This was definitely a step out of home for a Metroid game, one I never thought the series would ever take. Teaming up with the notoriously large (giggle) Team Ninja, Other M not only features a fast Metroid Gaiden bred gameplay but they’re reaching newer territory by expanding and exploring through Samus’ character and history. For the first time characters may really interact and we will hopefully see development between both Samus and newly introduced characters.

Of course to most Metroid fans this is the extremely wrong direction to steer into. Combining the “Metroid formula” with that of character development and silly Chinese cartoons should be absolute taboo. Still… if it isn’t broke don’t fix it right? And, well, it’s debatable whether or not Metroid has broken, but honestly as a Metroid fan I’ve been bored with the series for the past eight years. It’s been the same games getting worse each time. And so, this here is exactly the type of change I wanted to see and as so I’m all in favor of Other M. Even the 2D-3D switching mechanic looks very interesting to me now. The game can even suck (which is highly plausible) but I’ll support it 100%. Screw you this is America I don’t have to make sense.
